My earliest memory of reading

Although I'm almost positive that it wasn't the first book I ever read out loud, the children's book Mousekin's Golden House always comes to mind whenever I recall the early years of my literacy. Although it is not as well known as other children's books such as The Berenstain Bears or The Very Hungry Caterpillar it was still my favorite, even before I learned to read my Grandma would read it to me whenever I came over. The book is a simple story about a mouse who finds refuge in a discarded Jack-O-Lantern, I remember loving the ending, except now I can't remember what happened. Anyway, the story was so basic it was easy for me to follow along, and the illustrations were fantastic. Perhaps the main reason the book still sticks in my mind is that my Grandma would always tell me that it was one of the first books my dad read to her, and how proud she was that day. So of course I had to read the book to her, and I did, I guess you could call it a rite of passage. The book is out of print now, but I'm sure I could find my Grandma's copy if I tried, you can count on her to keep things like that. Next time I see her I'll have to ask her, because writing this blog has gotten me really curious to find out how it ends.
